A Comparative Study on the Oral Health Status and Behavior of among Adults

Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare dental health levels of Korean adults.
Methods: This study used only data of adults aged over 18 who received an oral examination and survey at the same time, among data of "2003 and 2006 Korean National Health Survey".
Results: First, For characteristics of oral health behavior, there was no change of tooth brushing for a one-day, a decrease of smoking to 7%, but an increase of snack frequency from one time to 2-3 times. Second, For the number of dental caries, there was a difference between residential areas, and there was a difference in tooth-brushing frequency for a one-day, the use of oral hygiene devices, smoking, and snack intakes. Third, For periodontal disease, there was more increase of tooth-brushing frequency for a one-day and the use of oral hygiene devices in 2006 than in 2003. Fourth, For the need number of teeth treatment, there was more difference in tooth-brushing frequency for a one-day, the use of oral hygiene devices and smoking in 2006 than in 2003. Fifth, For the need number of dental prostheses, there was the same difference, which there was more difference in an increase of tooth-brushing frequency for a one-day, the use of oral hygiene devices, and a decrease of smoking at the same time in 2006 than in 2003. Conclusions: This exhibits the lack of the oral healthcare status in Korean adults aged over 18 until now. Consequently, the oral health educational program for continuous oral healthcare of adults should be developed to explore the effective education media and proper education methods for characteristics of region and workshop.
